A metals service center buys metals from primary metals producers and then processes it to meet customer specifications using specialized processing machinery and services that save customers time, labor, and expenses, reducing their manufacturing costs. Reliance is the largest metals service center company in North America. Approximately 50% of our orders include value-added processing.

The Reliance Family of Companies provides a full line of over 100,000 metal products including carbon steel, aluminum, alloy, stainless steel, brass, copper, and specialty metals in various forms including plate, sheet, coil, tube, bar, beam, and more. Reliance also offers processing services such as cut-to-length, laser processing, flat roll processing, machining, forming, and special services including finishing, kitting, and when-needed delivery. Our capabilities vary by location and are tailored to meet customer requirements.

Reliance, Inc. was founded on February 3, 1939, by Thomas J. Neilan. Originally named Reliance Steel Products Company, the business began as a distributor of steel reinforcing bars (rebar) for the construction industry. Over the decades, Reliance expanded through strategic acquisitions and organic growth, becoming North America’s largest metals service center company.
