SXE Plus AC motors are designed to provide efficiencies that exceed federal requirements outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and NEMA efficiency specifications (for "energy efficient" motors as defined in MG1–12.58.2 Tables 12–9 and 12–10). SXE Plus motors last longer since they run cooler than equivalent standard efficient designs. Typical applications include: fans, pumps, mixers, conveyors, and blowers. For added performance and savings, these motors are specifically designed to operate on AC variable frequency drives!

Standard Features

  • Frame - Heavy–gauge steel, rolled and seam welded for extra strength and rigidity. Frame, base and endshields coated with USDA–approved primer and alkyd enamel paint.
  • Base - Heavy duty steel welded to frame for extra mounting security.
  • Endshields - Rugged die cast aluminum with metal bearing inserts. Light weight. Corrosion resistant. Cast iron available for severe applications.
  • Hardware - Zinc chromate plated, high strength, with hex heads. Plating provides exceptional corrosion protection.
  • Conduit Box - Oversized. Top mounted. F1/F2 conduit connection. Easy installation. Gasket between frame and conduit box provides superior protection against contaminants. Grounding lug included.
  • Nameplate - Metal and stamped with nominal and guaranteed efficiencies in compliance with NEMA standards.
  • Bearings - Double shielded. Oversized. Permanently lubricated. Rugged. Holds up in tough applications.
  • Shaft - High strength, carbon steel.
  • Fan - Antistatic. Bidirectional. Corrosion resistant polypropylene. Provides superior cooling. Reduced losses due to air movement. Keyed and clamped to prevent movement on the shaft.
  • Rotor - Die cast aluminum with silicon steel laminations. Dynamically balanced. Exceeds NEMA limits per MG1–12.06.
  • Insulation - Class F non–hygroscopic insulation with multiple dips and bakes. Phase insulation included for inverter duty.
  • Windings - More copper and larger conductors increase cross sectional area of the stator. Lower resistance reduces losses due to current flow.
  • Certifications - U.L. component recognition, CSA approval, and testing of efficiency in compliance with NEMA MG1–12.58.1, which specifies dynamometer testing per IEEE 112 Method B.

Testing and Labeling

SXE Plus motor ratings are tested and labeled according to NEMA standards. Each motor meets or exceeds the definition of energy–efficiency per MG1–12.59.

Testing for efficiency is performed in compliance with NEMA MG1–12.58.1 which specifies dynamometer testing per IEEE 112 Method B. This includes procedures for segregating and smoothing stray load loss test values in order to minimize random test errors.

Labeling of efficiency is provided in compliance with NEMA MG1–12.58.2 which specifies that nominal efficiency be identified on the motor nameplate. In addition, the full–load guaranteed efficiency is also on the nameplate.

Higher guaranteed efficiency - Reliance(r) has the confidence to guarantee full–load minimum efficiencies that meet or exceed all NEMA minimum efficiencies as listed in MG1–12.58.2 efficiency Table 12–9. This assures you of a premium quality, energy–efficient motor.

Efficiency evaluation - Reliance recommends that energy–efficient motor evaluations be based on full–load, guaranteed minimum efficiencies established with NEMA standard MG1–12.58.1. These efficiencies should be NEMA values as defined in MG1–12.58.2.
